Why I'm Learning from (and Paying for) A Coach

And why you might want to consider it too...

About 6 years ago, I started working for a 13K+ following productivity blogger.

How did I do it?

I took the initiative to contact him and showed genuine interest in his work.

Now, although I learned a lot about productivity and time management at the time, I made one mistake:

I did not adopt his personal branding and creator business strategies myself.

A shame, really.

Because I know now the potential of a personal brand to create financial freedom - and use it as a source of self-expression.

I suspect I'm not alone in making this mistake…

You can learn a lot on the internet, but most people fall into the trap of 'intellectual masturbation,'

Meaning:

Consuming a lot of knowledge without practical application.

The result is having the illusion of personal growth, without having a tangible change in your life.

So what to do instead?

GET A COACH.

Find someone with a track record of results that you want and ask for an apprenticeship.

Why do this?

3 reasons:

  1. They have walked the path you want to walk. So, you won't have to make their stupid mistakes.

  2. They will hold you accountable to actually implement what you learn. As accountability is a powerful motivator.

  3. You will be able to adopt the beliefs of the coach. Helping you to break free from what you think might be impossible.

For this reason, I've adopted a coach to help me with getting my own first coaching clients.

After all, it's my goal to help other creators optimize their focus so they can work effectively on the things they truly care about.

While I'm building my personal brand:

Jordy van Bennekom - 'The Focus Coach'

But, enough about me…

How do YOU get a coach?

I would suggest the following:

  • Clearly define the skill you want to learn

  • Do your research on potential coaches

  • Choose someone who specializes in your goals

For me, Twitter worked really well as a research platform.

But it depends on what platforms you get your inspiration and follow people with tangible results.

So, find a coach and invest in yourself.

Trust me, it’s worth it.

After all:

“We have the opportunity to select from some of the most talented, diligent, virtuous people on the planet and then use their insights about life to help improve our own”
